Frequently asked questions.

What is reiki?

Reiki is a gentle form of energy healing that promotes balance in the body, mind, and spirit. It works by channeling universal life energy (Rei = universal, Ki = life energy) through the practitioner’s hands to support the body’s natural healing process. Reiki is not affiliated with any religion or belief system — it simply works with the energy that flows through all living things.

What does a reiki session feel like?

Every experience is unique, but most people describe Reiki as deeply calming. You may feel warmth, tingling, or waves of relaxation. Some clients see colors or drift into a meditative state. Even if you don’t “feel” the energy strongly, Reiki is still working on a subtle level to bring harmony where it’s needed.

Are sessions in person or online?

Both! You can choose to receive Reiki in person at our Clifton studio or online via video or distance session. Energy isn’t limited by physical space — online and in-person sessions are equally effective. Many clients enjoy the convenience and comfort of online sessions.

How does animal reiki work?

Animals are naturally receptive to energy. Reiki helps them relax, release tension, and restore emotional balance. During an in-person session, the animal is never restrained — they’re free to move or rest as they choose. Remote sessions are also available and often preferred for shy, anxious, or rescue animals. Reiki meets them exactly where they are, with respect and care. Prior to your appointment, a consultation will be scheduled to tailor the session to meet your animal’s unique needs.

What should I expect during my first session?

When you arrive (or log in), we’ll spend a few minutes discussing your goals and any areas of focus. You’ll then relax fully clothed on a massage table or comfortable chair while Reiki energy is shared. After the session, we’ll take a few moments to reflect on your experience and any sensations or insights that came through.

Can reiki be combined with medical or veterinary care?

Yes — Reiki works beautifully alongside conventional medicine and holistic therapies. It is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment, but it supports overall wellness and healing on every level.

Do you teach reiki classes?

Yes! Reiki on Clifton offers Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki I & II Training and Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki Master World Peace Reiki Training. How should I prepare for a reiki session?

Wear comfortable clothing, hydrate well, and allow yourself a few quiet minutes before and after. The more you relax and stay open, the deeper the benefits you’ll experience.

Can reiki help with stress, anxiety, or grief?

Yes — Reiki helps calm the nervous system, ease emotional tension, and restore a sense of inner peace. It supports the body’s ability to self-regulate and process emotions gently, without forcing anything to the surface.

Holy Fire® and Karuna Reiki® are registered service marks of William Lee Rand.
